The Kickstarter Home Stretch
Greetings all!
The past months have been real exciting at the studio– last week Recess hosted an open-call art show, complete with live music by the Warpossums and home-made Bon-mi sandwiches by Will Hawkinson. The turnout was fantastic, and we saw just how talented the friends and family of Recess are! Large-scale lithographs, paintings, monotyps, woodcuts, and video-art were all featured at the show.
In addition, prints from our international print exchange with Brazil were on display- over 25 prints in all. The printmakers involved were a combination of members of Recess Press, Atelier Piratininga (São Paulo, BR), and the Solar do Barão (Curitiba, BR). Each printmaker involved was asked to show part of their process, you can view the slideshows for each artist here:

As many of you know, we have successfully reached our funding goal as of March, we are encouraged and excited by all of the support everyone has shown so far!
We received an interesting challenge from one of our patrons a few weeks ago:
“Congratulations! And with 41 days yet to go, continue to fund-raise. If you raise $5,500, we will add $500 to our initial pledge, bringing your new total to $6,000. The $4,000 was a minimum goal, but with more funding you be able to invest in additional equipment that will help with your long term success.”
So, what do you think? Can we make it to $5,500 in the next 10 days? By spreading word about our kickstarter through social networks and blogs I think we have a pretty good chance!
If you know someone who might be interested in our project, please help us to connect with them, and hopefully we can reach this new goal! Our studio will be even stronger with this additional funding.
Huge thankyous to everyone that have helped us so far, come to our wacky events, and encouraged Recess so far! We love you guys!

Recess Press Residency at Prairie Seeds Academy
Recess Press has been working with our good friend and awesome art teacher Chloe Cothermann to do a residency teaching printmaking at Prairie Seeds Academy where Chloe teaches middle and high schoolers. Spring and Studio Access are near! Check out our Kickstarter…
Hello!
Recess Press has had a busy winter working on our print exchange, building drying racks and a washout, and filming the video for our kickstarter. We are so very close to being able to offer studio access! We launched a kickstarter yesterday in order to purchase the final items needed for a rockin’ studio, including flat files and a pressure washer……Please check it out and help us on our way to providing you and yours an affordable space to print.
In return, we’ll reward your kind donation with some pretty sweet print subscriptions made just for you (really affordable original artwork!).
We can’t wait to get more people making awesome work at RECESS PRESS!

About Recess
Recess Press is a motivated band of six young printmakers living and working in Minneapolis. We are accomplished alumni of the University of Minnesota Art Department working in lithography, screen printing, etching, and woodblock techniques. Since graduating and having attempted to make prints in basements and garages and with automobiles, we are aware of emerging printmakers’ need for affordable space and equipment. As a collective, we are joining our funds and experience to provide access to a democratic print shop as well as education for Minneapolis’ growing printmaking community.
